Creek Bottoms and Country Workshops
Harrodsburg is a small place, and epoxy flooring in Harrodsburg tends to go into floors that work hard. The community had 656 residents at the 2020 census, spread over about 4.35 square miles. It sits right off State Road 37, about 12 miles from Bloomington to the north and 12 miles from Bedford to the south. Many properties around it have a detached garage, a shop or a barn alongside the house.
The lowest ground on our list
Harrodsburg's elevation is 627 feet. That is lower than Bloomington, Ellettsville or Unionville. Clear Creek drains the community and flows southeast into Salt Creek, which reaches the East Fork of the White River near Bedford. Slabs on low ground near a creek can pick up more moisture from below than slabs on a ridge. That affects which coating will hold.
We test every Harrodsburg slab before we quote. The reading decides the plan: 1. Low reading: standard prep and a standard epoxy base. 2. Moderate reading: a primer made for damp concrete goes down first. 3. High reading, or water coming through a crack: we stop and tell you. The water source has to be dealt with before any coating.
Workshops and outbuildings
A lot of what we coat out here is a working floor: a shop where someone fixes engines, a garage that holds a tractor and mower, or an outbuilding used for storage. These floors collect oil, fuel and grease that soak deep into bare concrete. We degrease and grind until we reach clean concrete. Badly stained spots may need to be cut out and patched. Then we use a thicker build that stands up to dropped tools, jack stands and rolling creepers. Our Shop & Commercial Floor Epoxy page covers the heavier systems.
Old floors in an old community
Harrodsburg was first platted in 1836 under the name Newgene, and its post office has been open since 1840. Some outbuildings and garages here are decades old. Their slabs may be thin, poured without a vapor barrier, or broken where heavy equipment once sat. Before we coat an old slab, we check:
- Cracks that have one side higher than the other.
- Hollow-sounding spots that mean the concrete has separated.
- Edges that have crumbled where the slab meets the wall.
- Old paint or tar that has to come off.
Small problems get fixed as part of our crack and floor repair work. Large ones get written up so you can decide what to do.
Seasonal timing
Many Harrodsburg shops and outbuildings are not heated. Epoxy needs the slab and the air to stay warm enough for it to cure properly. For unheated buildings we aim for late spring through early fall, and we check the slab temperature on the day. A heated shop can be done any time of year. If you need the floor back fast, a polyaspartic system cures quicker and handles a wider range of temperatures.
House garages too
Not every job here is a shop. Attached garages in Harrodsburg get the same treatment as anywhere else: grinding, crack filling and a full garage floor epoxy system. Many owners pick a polyaspartic topcoat so the floor is back in use sooner.

Harrodsburg Questions
My Harrodsburg shop floor is soaked with oil. Can it still be coated?
Often, yes. We degrease and grind until we reach clean concrete. If oil has gone deep into one area, we may cut that spot out and patch it. We will tell you on the estimate what the floor needs.
Does being near Clear Creek mean my floor is too wet for epoxy?
Not necessarily. Many slabs near the creek test fine. We test every floor first, and if the moisture is moderate we use a primer made for damp concrete. If it is high, we will tell you before you spend anything.
